Chandler Park Fieldhouse Opens to Expand Detroit Youth Sports Options
New east side venue joins planned complexes in Romulus and riverfront to expand options for young athletes.
How we reported this
The $14 million Chandler Park Fieldhouse on Detroit's east side opened in July 2026 with programming scheduled to begin September 8.
The facility adds a 130,000-square-foot domed turf field and multi-sport courts at a time when families seek reliable indoor space for organized play. Youth leagues across Metro Detroit already serve thousands of participants each year through groups such as i9 Sports and N Zone Sports, which run programs for ages 3 to 14 in Redford, Livonia, Taylor and Detroit neighborhoods.
Facility Details and League Ties
Come Play Detroit, founded in 2010 by Justin Jacobs, runs more than 150 leagues annually for over 10,000 players and lists youth offerings alongside adult sessions at venues including Belle Isle and Joe Dumars Fieldhouse. N Zone Sports operates directly in multiple Detroit suburbs with sessions priced between $40 and $50 per player for eight-to-twelve-week runs. Stonewall Sports Detroit, added to the national LGBTQ+ network in 2019, draws 1,400-plus metro participants and channels more than $12,000 yearly to local nonprofits.
City Council approvals tie additional youth capacity to two larger projects. A $50 million WNBA headquarters and practice facility at the former Uniroyal riverfront site will include a dedicated youth sports academy, with construction set for 2027. A separate $3 billion Motown Sports Village planned for Romulus near Detroit Metro Airport lists 12 basketball and volleyball courts plus four hockey rinks among its features, with groundbreaking listed for early 2027.
Next Steps for Families
Registration windows for fall sessions at the Chandler Park Fieldhouse open through the city's recreation portal and partner leagues. Parents can check N Zone Sports and i9 Sports schedules for current openings in Redford and Livonia locations while monitoring announcements for the riverfront academy and Romulus complex once permits advance.
